I will attempt to answer your question.

The entire story of Ganesha and Shiva is gives 3 messages:
a) Know your limits
b) No Egoes at work, and
c) Have a clear communication of exception

Trigger point is Parvati's bath. It is not abt safety. Now a days we are talking of women Lib and giving personal space. Hindus those days concieved all these and fabricated some stories around. Ganesha, the personal guard and tryst with Shiva is abll about how Parvati failed to communicate exceptions, Ganesha did not know limits ( did not know when to check with Bosses) and Shiva's high handedness at work.This is something all witnessed in our day to day life.

True these were fabricated and people say Binsar is the place where Ganesha got His elephant head.

Now this stories were to take out essence and apply it in our day to day life.

If you say were not all the parties involved were GOD. Then, we look at them as GOD then SHIVA=GANESHA=PARVATI says Isavasya Upanishad
That then transports us to a different plane.
Ravishankar's point is abt missing out these essence and lessons that Hinduism preaches.

You would know that Hinduism recognised that ppl will have very different learning styles and came out with 6 upanishads in which Isavasya is for intellectuals who can absorb abstract things. Kathoupanishads is the story telling methodologies. mandukya and kena upanishads are Q&A/logical discussions.
