RE:So much for God
by Gururaj S on Sep 25, 2007 08:39 PM

There are many reasons why it should not be broken.

1. Its a matter of faith. I am sure people will protest if the faith is questioned in the case of Prophet's hair at Hazratbal, in the case of Buddha's tooth, in the case of virgin Mary giving birth to Jesus Christ, his resurrection after crucification, etc, etc.

2. If other religions have a right to their belief and protection of their institutions and relics, so also the Hindus.

3. You know the unsavoury incidents at Golden temple that resulted in those violent action and subsequent violent reactions that lead to so much unwanted bloodshed. Congressmen went berserk following the assasination of Indira Gandhi by two of her body guards.

4. You have observed the reckless reaction to the Danish cartoonist's caricature of the Prophet. A Minister in of Mulayam Singh government announces a bounty for the head of the cartoonist and yet the police does not take any action. However, in case of Vedanti one sees a FIR being filed.

The more important reasons:

1. Ecological: The region is house to many rare species which might become extinct if this project goes on. Huge danger of Tsunami, & severe storms to TN & Kerala.

2. Economical: Many have expressed opinion that this channel will not really save much and large ships cannot use it.

3. Loss of livelihood: It is a conglomerate group of Hindus, Muslims, Christians that is protesting because of threat to their livelihood.

4. Defence: Threat of LTTE to ships.
