I have read these messages, there are lots of Singhalses coming here with their anti Tamil and sublte half truth propaganda. First leaving the Ltte out . The Tamils in SriLanka have been living in the country for thousands of years> The north and east of Sri Lanka has always been Tamil speaking adn have hardly been Singhala. when Europeans came to Sri lanka there were three kingdoms tow nmonally Sinhala and one Tamil ( the kingdom of Jaffna) All three were reules by Tamils, Two of whom stated they were Sinhala. Th eeast was ruled by Tamil chietans calld Vannimar, they were independent until the Portuguese capture of the Tamil Kingdom of Jaffan and th eSinhal kingdom of Kotte , they then asked the Tamil/Sinhal kings of Kandy for prtection. But this was of no use as they were captured too. The British captured the Kingdom of Kandy in 1815. And the last independent Tamil Province of Vanni ruled by the Tamil chieftan Pandara Vanniyan few years later. This was the last independt Tamil Kingdom to be captured and it was not in India but in EElam. The British united all these and called this colony Ceylon for adminstrative purposes. The Dutch and the POrtuguese recognised th eetnnice and relgious differences and ruled the Sinhal and Tamil speaking areas as two seperate colonies. The British also took the two Tamil districts of Puttalam and Chilaw in the North West coast and merged them with the Sinhala provinces resulting in the Sinhalisation of the Tamils there especially after 1948
