Bal Thackeray has had his brush with the law before. One finds it difficult to admire this man, who started the Maharashtra for Maharashtrians campaign which resulted in attacks on South Indians in Mumbai. The role played by him during the 1992 riots is also dubious. No person can incite a riot and get away with it.
However, one wonders whether the courts of the country can order the arrest of Shahi Imam of Delhi Masjid for his many provocative speeches. This will immediately followed by a hue and cry and political parties will support the Imam rather than the court. In fact, the Imam had openly challenged the Govt to arrest him on more than one occasion, but the Govt of the day failed to respond. What double standards!
