You say that Jyoti Basu deindustrialised West Bengal peacefully. That does say a lot about the people of West Bengal.
And now before furious Bengalis fly of the handle, let me clarify. It is not possible that the people of a nation could have waited with folded hands while the ruling class 'peacefully' dismantled the industries that were running. It is well known that though Basu would not have used 'Pol Pot'ian ruthlessness to crush industries, his services, wily nily to uphold the rights of the workers, did much to crush the industrial environment of the state. However, by no stretch of imagination can you call the fight for worker rights as 'Gandhian'. Especially as it wreaked havoc over a sustained period of twenty five years.
And therefore do I comment that 'Gandhian Pol Pot' is an oxymoron.
