This article brings up many interesting questions. As others in the discussion point out, there are some erroneous assumptions. I would here like to make a point that Indian academic thought on the subject of energy is negligible or non-existent. Tatas have started TERI, but how many other institutions of energy research do we have? How many universities have serious energy research going? Yet today we talk of Jatropha and biodiesel. In the nuclear energy sphere, must the DAE be the only island of wisdom in the entire country? If Prof. Brahm Prakash came to the Department from IISc Bangalore, what other Indian institutions are we nurturing for future leadership?
