The history of conversion goes back to brahmins migration (Parasurama's clan)
During the maurya empire they could not stay in North because of they became vegetarian and offering pattern has changed.
They migrated to south India and slowly undermined the Saivaites who were earlier purohits by pleasing the kings with Yagna's and offering.
Slowly they became priests and thrown the native Vellala priest out and hijake the religion.
Only kings and rich were wanted and rest all become unwanted garbage.
So the people were not living so many years without a God.
So conversions took place to avenge the act
Mind you The people who converted are not just beggers sort
They were all hard working people and real backbone of country.
Still you will never understand,
