Saivist and Vaishanvites were big enemies of each other. Hinduism was formed some 500 years ago believe it or not it is your problem. Brahmins hated Siva and he was considered another ravana, who was sent to vanvas just being dravidian god, as per their second version of veda. Morover siva is another form of Jain god adinath who were discovered in harappan civilization which is more than 5000 years old culture.
