What about the places which still exist by their names and can be correlated to Ramayana. Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Shabrimalai, Rameshwaram ans Shrilanka (then Lanka).We have Nashik and Nagpur(Ramtek) also which can be correlated to the path that Lord Rama took during vanvas. Believers would continue to do so but the sentiments are definitely hurt.
