CPIM is kept alive in West Bengal by COngress by denying opposition Unity. If Opposition were united, Buddha Babu would have barely managed to save power. Just barely by getting 5-10 more setas above 50%.
But Congress deliberately refuses to unite opposition in West Bengal.
Manata Banerjee left congress precisely for this reason - unwillingness of congress to fight CPIM.
