The fault is entirely on Congrress's side
by Sudip Bhattacharjee on Sep 10, 2007 08:51 PM

I would say the whole fiasco about nuclear deal was due to the following facts:

1. Congress made alliance with left fully knowing that left is against any kind of friendship with the USA. They wanted to be in power in Delhi and they did not think about what could have happened in future.

2. Congress did not make any effort to take the left (and BJP) into confidence before starting the negotiations. How could they simply assumed the support of left?

3. Even after the start of the negotiations, the Congress did not make any effort to convince the parliament. On the other hand, USA has always said they can not go ahead with the deal without the approval of their congress. How could the PM simply assumed that the parliament will simply approve the deal just because he the the most wisest prime minister of India or just because he is perceived as the most patriotic prime minister?

I am not saying left is right on this issue, they are dead wrong and consists of corrupt people. What I am trying to say is there was a severe lack of practical sense in the minds of Congress political leaders.
