False Pride??
by Gurdeep Singh on Oct 24, 2007 11:02 AM

Our whole bunch of scientists and engineers have so far been unable to produce a decent automobile engine. All indian auto companies still depend on foreign technology to power their automobiles. To scuttle competition they beg with the government to not to allow their foreign partners to setup their shop. They always want 'transfer of technology' coz they know they cant develop it. So much for an automobile engine. Anothe example would be the case of large generators for the Mega Power projects. Our very own BHEL can't develop large generators and wants 'Transfer of technolofy' from french firms. What we are talking about here is nuclear technology. When we fail to develop lesser technologies I find it hard to believe that we would ever be able to develop nuclear technology. What have our scientists done in the last 30 years is anybody's guess. Let us not fool ourselves in false pride.
