These policemen committed a mistake, as they wrongly identified two businessmen as dreaded criminals from UP. It was a mistake done by a paid informer/spotter, who wrongly signalled to the policemen that the persons in the car were the gangsters the policemen were lying in wait for. Their intention was to kill the gangsters NOT the innocent persons who got killed.
A lot of us make mistakes in our professions -- software engineers write wrong code, investment bankers make wrong investment recommendations, doctors operate wrongly, cricketers play wrong shots often....is this the way people are going to be penalized ?
If Sanjay Dutt gets the benefit of doubt as his "intentions were not malafide", though he procured an AK-47; I wonder how can policemen in the line of duty NOT be given the benefit of doubt, when their intentions were NOT malafide ?
