This is the danger in entering into any deal with NSGs. They will arm twist us whenever it suits them. They are highly unreliable lot They use such deals as a political weapon. Our Dependence on imported nuclear fuel is not the correct policy. Nuclear power though desirable, it can meet country%u2019s energy requirement only to a limited extent. Our dependence on NSGs for the supply of uranium fuel, however, is going to prove a serious bottleneck. We will do well to pursue Fast Breeder Reactor technology using thorium as fuel of which we have abundant reserves. Uranium is not the answer to our energy requirements. Thorium is. I hope our scientists are already working on this, If not,, the work must be taken in all seriousness and accelerated. Our dependence on petroleum is already hurting. Dependence on imported uranium will add further to our woes. NSG will also arm twist us into submission whenever we don%u2019t submit to their dictates. We will become captive in the hands of western nations. Solution to our problems lies in exploiting hydroelectric power generation to the full extent, exploitation of solar energy to the extent possible which is inexhaustible and is available round the year. Solar energy can meet at least our domestic energy requirements to a great deal. Israel has already done this.
