Actually if you check out before you shout, the project is under consideration from 50s itself. Also the same with the present alignment was vetoed by AD Mudaliar committee way back in 1956 itself. There is no mid ocean Channel in the whole world because it is a risky proposition as regards fiscal and environmental issues. The present alignment will need continuous dredging without the capability to entertain high capacity vessels and will harm the strategic Thorium reserves and a vast sub marine biodiversity.
