Kerala couldn't boast of independent writers, even though it could have had many, mainly because at an young age itself they got sucked into leftist ideology. This was because of a big vacuum left by the freedom struggle, material development in the west and voice of contempt against the local Indian religious belief (systematically and successfully made during the Britsh days by missionaries). People like Vijayan Sir fall into this category. Later in life when these thinkers found the drawbacks of these ideologies it was too late, as the ego got the better of truth. They couldn't disassociate themselves from it and result is a brain drain and narrow outlook in malayalam literature. Hope the future brilliant writers can become independent.
