Dangerous signals
by ram vikas on Oct 01, 2007 01:01 PM

The intervention of court in every matter has its toll. This was bound to happen some time or later but this even is also precussor of dangerous signals. The contempt of court in this case cannot be questioned but the larger point is can a government itself take its citizens for ride? After 60 years of democracy have we been successful in sanitising institution of governance from individual charisma and whims? What if tomorrow the military head thinks differently and disobeys the democratic structure of India?

I think it is time to act. An example should be set so that this kind of totalitarian motives are nipped in the budding stage. It is also time to look into structure and processes of our democratic system. There is so much of court's intervention that it has lost its potency. "Chalta hai" attitude has transcended everything.

The civic institutions have failed. The citizens of this country has lost hope. However, it is better late than never. The citizens of this country should rise above caste, religion and region and teach defaulters of democracy by shunning all these political parties.

It is also for the designers of the contitution to develop a layer between government and political party and subsequently between political party and individual. In this case the Tamil Nadu government has become DMK government oe Karunanidhi government. This is a dangerous situation. India is neither Cuba nor Germany of 1940's.
