Musharraf's Presidency
by jamsheed basha abumohammed on Nov 30, 2007 10:48 AM

Relief everywhere as Musharraf doffed his uniform finally and taken oath as a civilian President. His promise to lift emergency and hold elections in free and fair transperant manner is welcomed by one and all especially the Bush administration. The Americans are more than relieved as they were bombarded with strong world opinion against the Musharraf's actions. It is now upto the politicians there in Pakistan to participate in the election so that democracy is restored in its full form. Any precipitate action by the opposition to boycott polls will only strengthen the hands of Musharraf to delay democracy. It is better for them to sort out any problem facing the elections in a democratic manner and participate in the election process like other parties. Musharraf on the other hand should display the sincerety in deeds than in words by lifting all the curbs on the media, release all the political prisioners, call for all-party meeting to enthuse confidence in them. This proactive measure will go a long way in establishing the rule of law in the otherwise troubled Pakistan. The President has got another thorny problem to solve that of extremists raising their ugly heads. They should be taught a lesson through some stern actions on their hideouts. Weeding out these elements will help Pakistan to move forward otherwise these destabilising agents will tarnish the image of that country whose direct bearing will be on India. India is Pakistan's well wisher, will help in restoration
