The image of Mr Musharraf as a master tactician is intact. He has only shed his uniform but still wields power over the army as its best bet. The service chiefs are his men and now more than ever he can escape blame for any martial acts that the Pakistani Govt proclaims, besides acceding to the wishes of his patrons in the USA. Mr Musharaf is a master escape artist as well.
