When is the next Upahar tragedy??
by Sridhar Rao on Nov 21, 2007 07:35 PM

A tragedy struck a decade ago in a cinema hall. The owners, the corporation officials and fire officials all gave clean chit without proper examination. They probably received their "fee" for it, nothing unusual about it. It is a normal process throughout India.
What bothers me is the fact, there are hundreds of such cinema halls acrosss India where there are no standards or any fire-proof or fire-retarding mechanism in place. We are waiting for another tragedy to occur. Has the union government strictly implemented the protocols and is the district administration checking the cinema halls in its jurisdiction? It is matter of time before another tragedy strikes, when..only time will tell.
