People who have committed crimes against unarmed civilians in eastern Europe have been tried in the International Court of Justice and sentenced. Modi's crime is also of the same nature and scale. The Gujrath carnage is a clear indication of the failure of state machinery to protect unarmed civilians. Nobody need expose BJP; the very comments appearing in its favour on rediff is a clear indication of an emerging fascist force that will do anything to further its agenda of religious fundamentalism. India is adrift ideologically. Only a strong leader like Nehru/Sardar Patel can stem this tide of increasing communalisation of polity and politics. At the ground level the saffron activists are lumpen elements; at the top are pseudo intellectuals -- a lethal combination as far as minorities are concerned. One only hopes that the Supreme Court steps in to uphold the rule of law by punishing the guilty, be they ever so highly placed. We are living in a globalised world and the consequences of that are inescapable. Eventually Modi will stand trial when international pressure builds up.
