RE:No Justification!!
by White Elephant on Nov 07, 2007 06:06 PM

it is nice writing about riots after they are over.

if you go to roots of riots (as a person who has lived in riot prone areas for years, i know the riot mentality well), it is the suspicion of the other community.

hindus now feel that muslims are extra-aggressive in any matter.

muslims feel that they are being victimized.

but, like any quarrel involving neighbours, there is no beginning and no end, just one blaming another for something that took place now, or before 1 year or 5 years or may be centuries.

but, there is a deep sense of distrust. and it is exploited by the politicians.

this mistrust is not generated by politicians, they just exploit and fuel it. it is there for many, many years.

basic problem is people's lack of trust in the system to provide justice. be it a road accident, or a thief being caught and beaten up, or communal incident.

general public at large feels that the system is not going to work, so they have to settle the score.

and with a mob trying to settle a score (it could be a hindu or a muslim mob), how do you talk to them ?

anyone like tehelka, saying that modi started the riots is a fool. there was so much anger when the godhra train burning incident came to light that it just needed a spark.

modi kept quiet for two days, that is his act of ommission.

any mob killing someone is wrong, but the real solution lies somewhere else.
