Country divided
by shiva on Nov 06, 2007 07:30 PM

Just like Myanmar, Pakistan is a country so divided that common man is held to hostage by few. The generals in Myanmar go about their routine pointing the guns at the common man in the street.

The only solution seems to be,for the general population to get educated in science and other subjects that can give them a meaningful life. Otherwise, they will be steeped in othodoxy and spending time in splitting hairs and killing others who do not fall to their way of thinking.

It all seems so steeped in ancient times. I was also reminded of my colleague, who pulled his daughter from school the moment she attained puberty in a village in India. Despite my pleadings, he said his words will not carry any weight and she will while away her time till she gets married. His sons were also spending time praying and not willing to contribute to family kitty by taking up some jobs.

It looks quite hopeless, but miracles do happen. China is one country which lost 20 million in cultural revolution, but turned the corner. One has to learn the lessons like them when they saw Taiwan, Hongkong & Singapore propspering, they did not want to spend their time like country bumpkins and be the laughing stock. That is postive thinking for you and accepting the reality in a fast changing world.

The educated Pakistanis are so refined & successful that they owe some duty to bring up their poor cousins and teach them the ways of the world. Otherwise, all will suffer in the end.
