I agree with you. The funny thing is that even Manu Smruti has also been tampered at a number of places to introduce caste system by cunning Brahmins. The truth is that even Manu Smruti ( untampered version) is against birth-based caste syetm. You should read Swami Dayanand Sarswati's "Satyarath Prakash". He has shown lot of contradictions in current vesion of Manu Smruti. Manu Smruti says somewhere that a Shudra can become Brahmins through hard work. This completely goes against the theory of birth based caste system. The caste system was very clearly introduced through lot of manipulations and cunningness of some selfish people and time has come to expose them.
