RE:enigmatic hindu scriptures...
by Anand Iyer on May 14, 2007 09:08 PM

Dear Dinesh. Have u read hindu scriptures? Have u read Bhagvad Gita-the way u say-" la krishna...like guiding arjuna on battle field"? In Bhagvad Gita, krishna tells Arjuna in no uncertain terms that caste depends upon a person's deeds and qualities and not his birth. Simple enough? Any enigma here? Further, he says "one should lift oneself by one's own efforts". Any enigma in this? It is Manu sMruti which clearly is a social propoganda(as u say) becoz it brings in caste based on birth. The moment hindus accepted Manu Smruti over Bhagavad Gita, the hindu society stagnated and degenerated. That did not stop people from other countries from being guided by Gita to achieve success (scientists such as Einstein/Oppenheimer etc).
