Poorabiya Backwardness was the Result of 1857 War
by Shivkumar Singh on May 07, 2007 05:58 PM

The brits not just took barbarian revenge. They never trusted and forgived the Poorabiya (UP/Bihari) Rajputs and Brahjmins , communities that made up the bulk of British Army.

The Brit also did nothing towards setting up irrigation in the Gangetic plains the way they set up irrigation for the Indus plains. Also not much was spent in education. The weakness of a UPite and Bihari in English, who are usually much more intelligent otherwise can be directly attributed to British policies.
