Respect is commanded (by deeds) and not demanded just because it is written in some books written thousands of years ago.
Things have changed now.Brahmins were respected earlier as they were the only caste educated and knowledgeable. Now the opportunity to learn is available to everyone.
In the sense that you consider all knowledgeable people as brahmins...then yes all brahmins should be respected, if they use their knowledge for betterment of all...But this respect-thing should not be just because one is born in a family with certain surname.
