Nandigram
by ramakrishnan balasubramanian on Mar 19, 2007 05:45 PM

No doubt Buddha Babu has lost most of the credibility that he had earned when he came back to power. I myself had so much of respects for him though I had minimum sympathy for his party. He started his innings well but in the name of industrialisation he lost all sense. Having been in Bengal for more than 35 years, I knew the industries are spread only in the City, the South and North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah and around Durgapur/Asansol. We never had major industries in other districts, may be one or two here and there. therefore, Buddhababu's preference should have been reopening the hundreds of closed factories in the above destinations rather than going in for new ones. Also with a respected person like him at the helm, people like wanted that instead of giving the land to the industrialists at throw away prices, he should have ensured formation of the co-operative societies with the people who had given land so that the ownership of the land continues to be with the people. Today Bengal needs Buddha Babu but not his policies and the people around. Bengal has one of the top most intellectual group here and it is time he solicits opinion from them and take the state to new heights. He should also understand that giving concessional land, concessional duty, tax etc. after all why you need Tatas to come. Let the state government put up the factories and come to the equity market to raise money. Let us build our own state and does not depend on people like Tata and Salim who are purely money minded.
Nandigram chapter should be closed and Buddha Babu should be allowed to think afresh on this.
