Buddhadeb should resign
by gita narrayani on Mar 19, 2007 04:26 PM

Regardless of the mandate of the people and the skewed development of West Bengal that he has ushered in, I strongly feel that the Chief Minister should resign. What is this so-called development?? Malls, multiplexes and shopping centres in overcrowded Kolkata and a "showpiece" Sector V in Salt Lake (which otherwise is falling prey to the usual encroachments, hawkers and squalor)and Haldia, what else? Large parts of the rural areas are still without electricity, medical services and the basic amenities for a civilised life and here we have another housing project on the Byepass by Gujarat Ambuja!! The gaunt and drawn faces of the villagers told a tale of deprivation, neglect and poverty. IT IS A SHAME THAT THE SO-CALLED PEOPLE'S GOVERNMENT THE LEFT FRONT, WHICH GAVE LAND TO THE LANDLESS IS NOW CLAIMING IT BACK. By what right, I would like to ask and who gave this government and its armed wing the police, the right to shoot down people who are only protecting what is their own property??
Buddhadeb Bhattacharya should resign, IF and this is a very big IF, he has any self-respect and genuinely feels he is responsible for the deaths at Nandigram. He has said he is responsible, now he should put his money where his mouth is and give up his post.
