RE:WB Strike on Friday
by Arnab Chowdhury on Mar 14, 2007 05:46 PM

The Police did not enter Nandigram in the first two months. No Nazi government would be so nice. Roads had been dug up, police officers lynched; still police did not enter nandigram. they had every right to, for they are responsible for law and order, but still they did not. Still compare them with Nazi germans? They were apprehensive of violence and though they were capable of dealing it (as they dealt yesterday) they did not want to do it the hard way. But was there any other alternative? How long can you disown law-n-order and expect authority to ignore it? how long? Besides, the most important point, what is all the agitation about? Government had made it clear they are not taking up land in Nandigram. Why the meaningless violence? Who benefits from it? definitely not the state, not the farmers. Then who? People are wise enough to understand.
