Punishment is meant to make aware the individual on his wrongs go against the interest and harmony of the society and bring such individuals back to mainstream life activities. Punishment always should be a reminder to the society as a whole. Punishment should not be to settle scores. It should be retribution. But in India people usually take the law into their hands depending upon their muscle and money power and background for which they make criminals instrumental to settle scores and killing is the minimum drive they initiate against the rival on ransom. Such criminals in no way deserve pity or reprieve and capital punishment is the ony the least course they deserve. If the killing is evidently substantiated, then they should be hanged. Mrs.Pandey is right.
