Elections

Forget the Presidential one, even our normal election processes are deceitful. There are thousands of small parties, formed on local issues mainly. There is a lot of division of votes based on caste and religion politics. Bribery is ample to get votes. Distribution of money one day earlier to the election date can turn votes elsewhere. Congressmen like Pranab Mukherjee take people for granted. They get elected by marginal votes. Many a time, the percentage of votes an elected candidate gets is less than the average votes. MLA's like this come together and form a government. If they are not in majority, they take the crutches of other small parties to form it, even by means of horse trading, and gloriously call it as a coalition. So another party, even if it gets more seats, cannot form a government. And then the government formed by several minor parties coming together is labeled as peoples' government though majority of people have not voted for such government to form. Majority is suppressed and minority rules. They will elect a Rashtrapati sometimes because the person is from the minorities, sometimes because it is from a scheduled caste, sometimes because it is a woman, many a time in return of some favours that person has done to the ruling party, but not because the candidate is liked by all the people!
