what should kalam do
by safdar ahmed on Jun 23, 2007 05:58 PM

kalam should not have expressed his desire to continue in office belatedly -- after the formal declaration of candidates by the UPA and NDA. The UNPA that was formed by a club of former chief ministers -- rejected outright by people of their respective states -- needed a public relations exercise and they thought it fit to drag the Rashtrapati Bhavan into the murky world of politics. They even succeeded in that. That's where the story began for kalam. he was told unceremoniously to quit.
Kalam must have gracefully retired, but he didn't. what is certainty in indian politics cant be defined certainly. after cornering abuses and insults he said he wont contest. the damage was done within a span of 24 hours. By unofficially proclaiming contest and then officially statement on not contesting kalam made a big fool of himself before the nation that had high regard for him.
sorry to say this but he should have calculated the numbers which by all means donot favour him. Lure of power has therefore triumphed over character.
