What should Kalam do?
by Madhava Reddy on Jun 24, 2007 08:52 PM

I think Kalam should gracefully retire to oblivion. He has proven himself unfit for the post of President a second time as he had taken no action on the clemency petition of Afzal Guru who is one of the terrorists who had attacked the Parliament. A President's primary responsibility is to uphold the constitution and when a terrorist attacks the Parliament which is one of the major organs of our democracy it is a serious crime which should be punished severely . The President should have decisively and swifly rejected the clemency petition. By vacillating and not taking any decision, he has shown his communal true colours. In this process, he had also betrayed the trust placed in him by the people of this country that he would be a worthy guardian of the constitution. In no way does he deserve to be reelected for a second time.
