President's Election
by HariOm Chawla on Jun 24, 2007 05:11 PM

This year's campaign for President's election has been the dirtiest. Kalam Sahib has rightly withdrawn from the race.

In fact, wherever political interests clash and politicians are involved, there would be mud smearing. But the President's election had so far been clean and beyond any major controversy. This year's campaign has been exceptionally bad. No effort was made to arrive at a consensus for the country's highest post.

It is sad that all efforts by media to extract public opinion in this behalf has gone in vain. The first choice of people, President Kalam had to leave the race. The second choice, Mr.Narayan Murthy had no political links and did not seem interested. Also, his name did not elicit any response from political parties.

Can't we have a direct election for President so that choice of majority of the 100 crore people becomes our country's first citizen.
