Sheela Bhatt's rare columns are always interesting and to the point. Here she has come a bit too late on the scene. All speculations had been rife for the past few weeks; print and electronic media has devoted much more time and space than what was required, if at all? Nothing surprising as such for the present day Indian "DEMOCRACY", which has become a fiefdom of select few, unfortunately.Net result would be the verdict of the disgruntled/unwanted politicians with utter disregard for the Indian populace, as all know. Where are the public sentiments? Kalaam - Bharat Ratna well before being elevated to the so called "TOP POST", was initially brought in by a Party, which now, does not want him for the second term for unexplainable reasons and want an ageing - though a true patriot and a commoner for that matter. In contrast Congress initially, floats Kalam's name, only to be dumped in favour of pliable average level (as compared to KALAAM) persons who can be dictated to. What is best for the nation and the people's verdict, have gone un-noticed. Constitutional propriety does not give any 'real power' to Rashtrapati- we all know. Then why drag the issue? Let the nation know in clear terms that so far as President's appointment is concerned is solely politicians' prerogative and the Media should be advised to keep their channels not to waste time to ascertain 'PUBLIC VIEW POINT'. Still kudos is due to Sheela Bhatt for an inspiring write-up. TV KUMAR
