Yes, But...
by Libran on Jun 06, 2007 02:42 AM

Truly, With every breath we release CO2 and 'contribute' to environmental degradation inevitably. But for that can we say, let us not breathe? But if the third world countries keep quiet, that is what first world countries will say.
They are already saying these things directly and indirectly to us. They are saying that our Paddy production has to be cut as it releases methane. They are saying no large hydrolectric projects as the reservoirs emit high amount of methane etc. Could be true. But what are the alternatives?
Indians must not eat stomachful when Americans (including Indians living there) die of obesity?
Sit in darkness when Americans run their gas guzzling vehicles everyday (Fuel price may put some curb on this but not whole lot) and use CFC for their comforts?

It is the western habit of encourgaing consumption that has led to all this. I agree, without consumption, there cannot be advancement? But it is unfair for one section of humanity to enjoy all the comfort and tell the other people not to breathe, eat or use electricity for the lighting.
