In 1957, Nargis was @ the top of filmdom,& Sunil Dutt was a beginner. Before agreeing to marry him, Nargis put the condition that Sunil embrace Islam before embracing her. (Recall Waheeda & GuruDutt?)But for public consumption she became Nirmala Dutt , a Hindu name like madhubala. It was the general belief in those days that Sunil converted & Sanju too duly underwent 'Sunnat" secretly. This impression was reinforced by the answer given by the then CM Shri Sudhakar rao Naik in the Mah Assembly in reply to a starred question. The question was 'Is it true that Sunil Dutt MP & / or visited Behrampada in their Vehicle to pacify Muslims staying there ? Also that as soon as they departed, the belligerant Muslim crowds would come out on the main Express Highway, & fire @ the Police forces on duty? Is it not logical to conclude that weapons & ammunition were supplied to the mutinous Muslimroiters by the Father / son duo for being used againt Hindus & the Police?' The CM replied unequivocally, " Yes, that was the case after most visits." This is the reason why Muslims lament the hardship to Sanay. I have a sharp memory of those days, & I do hope I am wrong, since I have always been a great admirer of Nargis , Sunil & Sanjay as actors.Their child suffering makes my heart bleed though I'm not a Muslim.
