RE:N Deal - Raw Deal ???
by Sharad on Aug 01, 2007 10:01 AM

US is not the only Supplier we will be dealing with. There are more than 40 countries in the Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG). In fact, France and Germany are two countries which possess some of the most advanced technology in NSG. Australia is ready to supply Uranium to India. Russia is ready to supply reactors to India. Canada is a major producer of uranium. They are waiting to supply. It is a matter of business and making money for them. The next step is India agreeing with IAEA on safeguards, and making the deal with NSG. After these two are accomplished, only then the 123 agreement will go for ratification by US congress.

As regards India becoming a stooge of the US due to this deal, the fear is misguided. India is already part of a loose alliance - US, JAPAN, INDIA and AUSTRALIA. With Indian economy growing, India cannot be treated as any other small country. India will continue to form its own independent policies.
