The Americans coined the term "collateral damage" and used it nonchalantly to hide their crimes. Haneef may have been a collateral victim. Give him a fair chance to prove his innocence. Alternately, the Australian police should prove he was indeed a sleeper cell member. Restraint in labelling one and all is not the answer. Deal with terrorism firmly but fairly. Not an easy task but that alone can bring a lasting solution. Patience, diligence and perseverance in battling terrorism have no alternatives. It is really sad that even the literate and the educated have become victims of the tendency of not discriminating the bad and ugly from the rest.
