Shaheen Women's Resource & Welfare Association congradulates our first woman president and wish her good luck.We are a small vountary organisation working for the cause of women's empowerment in the old city of Hyderabad.But we feel discriminated when we apply for FCRA to get foreign fund.The Home Ministry is creating as many hurdles as possible.We submit all the documents and yet our applications are rejected. Shaheen is a registered organization working in the Sultan Shahi area of Hyderabad, primarily with women on communal harmony, gender issues, education, health and legal advocacy. Shaheen has begun to make inroads into the most difficult areas of Hyderabad%u2019s old city region. We have identified communal harmony, gender justice and education both towards awareness and economic independence as the key building blocks for women%u2019s liberation.
Our work in this area has thrown some light on the aspects of communal violence and how it affects the lives of women. Any communal tension results in oppression of women at two levels: the perpetuator group targets them as victims while their own community uses oppressive tactics in the name of protection. Both of these cannot be countered without bringing about communal harmony among various religious groups by a process which consists predominantly of women from these communities.
