A lady has been elected as the President of this country. That fact itself is worthy of immense satisfaction to millions in this country as it gives out a message that in spite of a lot of problems that this country might face, there are certain facets where it goes far beyond the "progressive" western thought.
Though being relatively orthodox in its political thought, the political class has surprisingly given its voice to a woman candidate to be their first lady President. For all their cussedness, I think they went beyond their own estimation in this regard and they richly deserve a round of applause. Of course, the question of whether she was the most appropriate will remain. But now that she has been elected, that question should be decently buried. Odd voices of dissent are but the essence of pluralistic democracy, but one must remember that "one robin does not a summer make."
