Remember about 100 years back... the War to end all Wars. The war on terror is just another one... how can war end war, violence end violence, terror end terror? Dr Haneef is part of the Howard government's plan of 'populist' racism and fear mongering in a desperate attempt to win the upcoming federal election. Just as 'illegal' immigrants were throwing their children overboard in the lead up to the last election, Dr Haneef is clearly a terrorist because he fits the stereotypical profile. Australian society seems to me to be changing for the better as different nationalities coexist and intermix (and I live in 'redneck' country Queensland!) but there is still a strong undercurrent of racism, fear and closed mindedness. It seems John Howard and co. need another David Hicks - this time a Muslim and a foreign national fits the bill so neatly. Innocent people are being sacrificed in order to justify this War on Terror. An enemy has been created so any one of us can become the next Mohammed Haneef. May Australians rise up with voices of protest at being treated by our government and media as ignorant sheep, otherwise we sit and watch our precious freedoms be eroded further and further. May their be tolerance, acceptance, peace and love. Thankyou.
