musharraf and lal masjid
by Rhazes Ashrawi on Jul 10, 2007 08:22 PM

This is a desperate act by a desperate government. While Musharraf can be admired as being a tough general who knows how to say no to even violent extremists I am afraid in this case he has lost the sympathy of his admirers. This was a foolish act by taking on students who just were being steasfastly loyal to their religion.Pakistan today is in the grip of western influence.Musharraf is following the policy of secular turkey with its nationalist hardline young turks totally against any kind of religious outlook.Whom is he trying to impress? The west?.He would certainly be in for a nasty surprise. The US would only use him and disgrace him like they did to saddam.Musharraf should have been more sympathetic to the young islamic men and women and some solution could have defintely been found. He should have held direct face to face talks and compromised with their demands at least to a certain extent. These were not evil people. They were just demanding that progfanity and vulgarity that go against the tenets of Islam shouold be removed. Was that too much to ask? There was a way to deal with them. You do not approach these kind fo people with violence and hate. You have to respect them and reason with them kindly.Things would have worked out so well.Musharraf today has lost the admiration and sympathy of his few admirers. It is a matter of time that he wuld be soon thrown in the dust bin of history. Would India behave in the same manner with her terrorists like the bajrang dal?I doubt
