RE:Bad Taste
by Anurag Shrivastava on Jul 06, 2007 10:32 AM

The Islamic societies are going through a struggle between traditionalism and modernity. While we notice the 'jehadi rage" - we fail to notice the amount of forward thing that is there in a lot of muslims struggling to transform their society. We may identify Pakistan with Lal Masjid - which is the same as identifying India with the sermons given out at RSS shakha and Bajrang Dal meetings. The truly secular intelligensia amongst Hindus is also very small as can be seen from the virulent anti-muslim messages that get posted on this board. Even completely foolish assertions like " All muslims are not terrorists, but all terrorists are muslims" are given out as gospel truths. Secularism and liberalism in India was an ideology which Nehru created against opposition of most other leaders of that time including Patel , Rajendra Prasad and even Mahatma Gandhi. Most Indians are very religious and if leaders are allowed - there will be puja and pandit in every government ceremony in India - and practices like untouchability , sati , devdasis will come back with vengeance in the name of Indian culture.
