UNHINDERED RAINS SUSTAIN US, HINDERD ONES DRAIN US
by Rehman SH on Jul 01, 2007 09:22 PM

Rains are must. Not hindering their natural courses is also must. Rainwater take two routes. One is vertical and other horizontal. Vertical course is infiltration into ground. Horizontal course is run-off compounded with soil and water erosion. In the name of development we have hindered its infiltration into ground and enhanced its runoff by by paving our entire dwelling areas with cement/concrete. Let us start a new life where plantation is done on 75% of our dwelling areas and 25% hardly left for paving. Plantation does not mean that aesthetic gardens. It means planting native tall trees, short trees, bushes and ground covers together as if in native jungle. This will provide us a haven to reap pure air, potable water and healthy fibrous food ( three most important supporting elements of our lives) on perpetual basis. Give secondary importance to metallic transport, concrete shelter and expensive marriages. Give tertiary importance to poisonous luxury items. Every human being should be given a chance to see at least once a while sky, sun, stars, moon, soil and trees from their living places. Nobody should be captive like zoo animals in concrete structures. Animal activists who are striving to make animals non-captive are requested to see us too, who are very much captive in our own concrete structures.
