Added: 23 Feb '07 This is NOT nonensense! It is TRUE! Just because it has personally not affected you, it does not mean that it is not happening. There is photographic evidence that shows this actively happening. It almost happened to me and I hope that all Sikh and Hindy girls are strong enough not to fall into the traps of these men. What does religion teach you? Does it teach you to look down on women? To treat others differently? I certainly know that the Sikh religion teaches love, EQUALITY and compassion. Whatever religion you are you should REPECT OTHERS! A message for all Sikh and Hindu girls : BE INDEPENDANT, KEEP YOUR GUARDS UP AND DO NOT LET ANY MAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU IN ANYWAY. IF THIS IS HAPPENING TO YOU ACCORDING TO THE REPORT ABOVE THERE IS HELP! RAISE THE ISSUE TO YOUR LOCAL STUDENTS UNION, THE POLICE, POST A MESSAGE TO THE BBC AND MAKE OTHER GIRLS AWARE. NO ONE RELIGIN IS SUPERIOR TO ANOTHER - THATS JUST MAN'S VIEW - NOT GOD'S VIEW. - Ranj
This conversion has been long known in the Hindu community and has been happening for a long time. My family have been affected by this situation many years ago. I remember my parents taking me aside in the 90's and warning me not to be too friendly with MUSLIMS. Why you may ask? At the time, a cousin of mine had been involved with a muslim boy and had run away to live with him. Many years later, a single mum with the father abandoning her soon after the birth. My neice is now 12. - anon
Added: Tue 12:03 This has been going on for a while, since late 1990s, but only seems to have surfaced now inn the mainstream. Moreover, the same groups are still active under different names. Each time they get banned by the SU they appear under a new name in the following year. Yet the police or NUS have done nothing about. I sincerely hope that Met and other police forces NUS take this seriously and act accordingly. - ASP
Added: 24 Feb '07 I am a muslim guy and I am deeply disturbed by what I read. I am truly sorry for harrasment that these girls experienced. I am also angry by this shouvinists "muslims". If they had any basic religious education (and common decency) they should know that Islam strictly forbids coercion in faith. I am sorry. - Tarik
This has been going on for a very long time, Indian (Mainly Sikh and Hindu) children have always been taught the equality of all religions and it is this sense of innocence which has been taken advantage of by the extreme element of Islam. There have also been many cases of Indian women married to Pakistani's, taken back to Pakistan and sold into prostitution. The only way we can combat this is by communities getting together and fight this. Not to brush this under the carpet because of the "shame" this causes. S. Kaur, London,
