It was for the good.

Anyway Aurengazeb paid the price for his intolerance and fanaticism. The mighty Mughal Empire collapsed and got reduced to nothing within just 50 years after the death of Aurengazeb. For the first time Hindus(The Marathas) rebelled against Islamic opression succesfully and ended Muslim rule in India. Muslims afterwards never recovered (politically) in India.
Had he and later Mughals been as tolerant as Akbar, the empire of the Mughals would have lasted till 1st world war like the Ottoman Turkish Empire or probably longer and a puny trading company (East India Company) would not have conquered India.
