Hindi is not the national language. its the language that is spoken by most people in India, thats why i put national in quotes.

Why do you learn hindi in school in karnataka if you dont want to speak it.

Of course, there should be equal respect. if we both know english, i am ok with speaking to you in english. Since i know hindi (my mother tongue) and most people in bangalore know hindi, we can also speak hindi. i am not forcing anyone to speak hindi but they seem to enjoy it. Since we all know hindi in bangalore, i dont understand why i should learn kannada.
