here it is .. the Cauvery issue and we start off again ... the pseudo intellectuals and quasi literates of b'lore, pitching up their tamil bashing ( instead of concentrating the on the actual issue).. and yes the tamils retaliating by reinforcing the doctrine that mother earth still exists because of them. I of the belief that this message board was created tocome up with solutions not as the medium of catharsis of personal prejudices of of people of some 'bright' people we have seen on this board.
coming up with solutions to this issue is not an easy task. A few points could be taken into consideration: 1. Assesment of demand: supply needs of each state. For this an assessment of the area of irrigation of each state needs to be tallied with the actual flow ( averaged over an year). 2. Secondly the type of crops ( eg:rice in TN and Sugarcane in K' taka) and their requirements need to be considered. 3. Supply of water to major cities( like b'lore) and their increasing demands through expansion need to be considered. 4. The adequate generation of utilities like electricity through projects along the course of the river also needs consideration. 5. An independant team from the centre should have all the facts and figures for the last 10 years( as these would give the best trends and future predictions ). Some of these qustions need to be answered : 1. Is karnataka gettting enough water for its needs?. If no.... how much more does it need? 2.Is b'lore's rapid expansion t being taken into consideration? 3.How often does the river basin in TN dry up? 4. How much of the Cauvery river flow untapped into the Bay of Bengal? Is there an environment friendly way of minimizing this and maximizing the tapping this precious resource? 5. There is a high possibility that both the states are infact receiving less than the desired amount( which I think is the reality!). Then there is need for venturing into other possibilities like 'linking of rivers'. Definetly there is no room for stupidly discussing if b'lore would do better without the tamilians or the tamil channels or if tamil is the godmother of all south indian ( if not all indian) languages. My request to the likes of commanman, sandeep, anand and raj is please shed out your negative attitude and pitch in some bright ideas to solve the nagging issue that has brought in a lot of hinderance in progress of both states, has brought about major personal, material, commercial and moral loss to the region and the country in general
